Letter from the Editor, September 2011

Submitted by James on Mon, 09/26/2011 - 19:04

Dear Homeschooling Friends,

I am finally back and writing again.  I've been rather distracted of late, what with working at a camp all summer and picking up my piano tuning business upon my return.

Fall has begun, and so comes the time to choose a topic for Autumn.  First of all, do any of you have any suggestions?

Anna has again made a suggestion.  She wrote me and said,

"Fall theme: I'm prophesied to do what?
Think about it.
:)"
Well, I thought about it, and I think the irony elludes me.  Then again, I tend to be a little slow.
So, here are some possibilities, in addition to anything you all might suggest.

Castles
Caves
Rivers
Forests
Swords
"I'm prophesied to do what?"  (suggested by Anna).

Please comment!  By the end of September (four days!)  I hope to announce our "theme" for the fall, based off your input.

God bless you all.
James

**UPDATE**  For some reason I thought there was some irony in Anna's suggestion.  Evidently all she meant by "think about it :)" was to consider it as a possibility.

I like that idea! Explain to me what it means? the "I'm Prophesied to do What" topic!

How about "Lack of a father and fatherly influence".

Or... I don't know!

I love all the ideas, but none of them seem fall-ish. Not that they have to be... but I try to get as much fall as possible because it doesn't really exist here. But there are ways to make everything Autumnal. ;) And I don't have any specific ideas.

We could combine Laura's idea of writing a legend, with Anna's "prophesied to do what?" Prophesy and legend seem to fit together in my mind, at least.

... and I seriously can't believe there's only a few days left of September.

I vote for Laura's idea.  "Legend" seems like a great theme.

"I always wonder why birds stay in the same place when they can fly anywhere on the earth. Then I ask myself the same question." - Harun Yahya

"Legend" or Kyleigh's motion or, er, forests.

I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right. --The Book Thief

I like castles..... another topic suggestion that I have is "A solitary bell-tower".

The Holy Spirit is the quiet guest of our soul." -St. Augustine

I like the "legend" topic; it seems like it could be done in a whole menagerie of ways.
PS: James, are you going to save up everyone's additional suggestions for when we have to choose again? There are so many interesting ones...

Good Idea Hannah! I like that idea! For James to save the topics!

And I like the Prophesied topic! But I also like the Bell tower! That was a cool idea! I might have to do a post about that, even if its not a topic! LOL!

Suggestion (and this may be a little particular) but what about an apple that falls from the sky? Just a regular apple. That falls from the sky. I dunno. You could make it a poem...or a story...or, whatever. My mind is kind of crazy right now....be warned!

I like Kassady's 'lack of a fatherly influence.' LOL! And Anna's idea, of course, though I need to get it straight what exactly it means. And Laura Elizabeth's legend idea. I love myths/legends! So, yeah, everything seems good! :)

Excited for this fall's topic!!! *yippiee!* I associate apples and fall, for whatever reason, so that's why. Or...a story about a place where it's fall all the time. Like, year-round fall weather. Not sure. Good ideas!
