Snow Day

Cherry cheeks and flushed faces,

Scarlet scarves and loose laces.

Chocolate drinks and a snow flurry,

To the hearth the children scurry.

****

Sopping socks and muddy mittens,

Flickering flames and cuddly kittens.

Chocolate drinks and a snow flurry,

To the hearth the children scurry.

****

Glories of stories and roars of laughter,

“Shall we read one more chapter?”

Chocolate drinks and a snow flurry,

To the hearth the children scurry.

****

Warm blankets and a game of chess,

No one cares about the mess.

Chocolate drinks and a snow flurry,

To the hearth the children scurry.

****

Snuggling together as the days comes to a close,

They’ve had a good day as every face shows,

Because of chocolate drinks as the snow flurried,

And to the hearth the children have scurried.

The line 'to the hearth the children scurry' has a wonderful ring to it. A hearth is such a special thing to begin with....

Scurrying reminds me of mice scurrying around a stone kitchen floor. The repetition of that line is good as well. It's a simple thing to say, 'to the hearth the children scurry.' To highlight that phrase makes me as a reader notice the simple thing which I might otherwise have passed over, and enjoy it. Nice job!

I am so glad that you liked that line so much! I agree that a hearth is a special thing... maybe that is why I put it in there. : )

I have a question...what is snow? I mean, I've lived in north Carolina for over two and a half years and seen almost no snow!!

The poem is very nice...it's very peaceful and I bet that lots of people would like it!!
