Bedtime for Bobby

Submitted by Kendra on Tue, 05/12/2009 - 00:41

The sun was setting, making purple and pink streaks across the big sky. The rolling hills were mere silhouettes against the darkening sky. And across the way, there was a small valley that was beginning to be swallowed up by the dusk. In that small valley, there lived a herd of goats. And with no goatherd, they did as they pleased. Now, in that particular herd of goats, there lived an old nanny goat and her goat kid named Bobby. Bobby was a small little fellow, much smaller than any of the other goat kids, but he still kept up with them, bouncing and trouncing through the tall grass and small flowers.
“Bobby, time to go to bed!” the nanny goat said as she tried to catch up to her small kid.
“Aww, Mom, we were just getting used to the tickly grass! And, Mom--”
“Bobby, it is time for bed, now scoot!” interrupted the nanny goat.
Bobby reluctantly followed and was soon snuggled down on his little grass bed, and his mother put a small kiss on his nose.
“Now go to sleep, Bobby,” she told him.
“Can’t.”
“Oh, why ever not, dear? You look as tired as a grumpy old cow chewing on some grass.”
“I do not! I am sleepy, but I don’t look like a grumpy old cow chewing on some grass, and I am not a Bobby!”
“Honey, please. You do look like a grumpy old cow chewing on some grass, and you are a Bobby because that is what I and your father named you. (May he rest in peace.)”
“But, Mom!”
“No, ‘buts’ about it now go to sleep!”
“Mom! I am trying to tell you something!”
“Well, please tell me quickly, I want to go and visit with Stampeena.”
“Thank you! I promise you can visit Stampeena when I’m done!”
“Well then, what is it you want to say?”
“First of all, I don’t look like a grumpy old cow chewing on some grass because a cow is a female seal, and seals don’t eat grass. And second of all, I am not a Bobby because Bobbies are English policemen! NOW do you understand?”
“Oh, Bobby…”

I really liked this. I have goats, so it was fun to hear a story with them. Notice: My picture is a goat.

This was funny. The name reminds me of 'bed time for bonzo'. Have you ever seen that? It's about a monky, chimp actually. Very funny story. Good job.
