Constructive procrastination

Submitted by Christa on Tue, 02/19/2008 - 20:45

So diligently, studiousness held sway
Eyebrows gathered in furrowed madness
As fingers typed away
Minds: straight and narrow the path
For determination was the way
The more tenacious gulped
Coffee turning gray
Gripping pens chaotically inking
Notes spread in vast array

Scholarship so fashionable,
So effortful the survey
Chickadees, coming to chatter,
Were promptly chased away
But – what is this?
When finished concentrating
We are chagrinned to say
Laptops can only do so much
To keep the lackadaisical at bay
Thoughts turn to colleagues
Celebrating somewhere, someway
And the college library is not productive
Late at night on Friday

I love this poem. Excellent work. It's something I would have loved to write. :)

Thanks Sarah and Timothy, I appreciate it :).
It's still not quite right though, I need to fix the meter in the pen smudging ink line.
