April, Unexpected

Submitted by Nikki on Tue, 05/15/2007 - 03:03

did you forget
the color of new
leaves silhouetted against
peaches and
cream sky and did you
forget
the kiss of pollen
the gasp of life
this everyday miracle
this splash of red
azealea
and also forgotten blue
twilight
and sun, sand, wind
sweat on my skin
and the GIFT of spring -
did you forget
the terrible joy,
the beautiful ache?

I really like the immediacy of your poem. It captures the feeling of spring. I’m suddenly finished with my first year of college and reawakening to spring myself.

That's darling, Nikki. I was actually in the throes of writing something along the same lines... I might still try and say what I wanted, but you've done it so well!
