Why?

Submitted by Megan on Sun, 01/27/2008 - 21:30

Why do people take everything,
I say,
Bend and twist it 'til it goes,
The wrong way,
People that I never meant,
To offend,
Taught me a lesson,
Never do it again.

Everyone seems to have
Something against,
The things that I said,
The time I spent,
The way that it went.

Why can't anyone,
Understand,
It’s like I'm being isolated,
Stuffed in a can,
Isolated in my own little land,
Still, no one offers their hand.

No one seems to see my point,
All of them concentrate,
On bending my elbow back at,
The joint,
None of them really seem
To care,
If they’re offensive when,
I’m not there.

Every time I post I get slapped
In the face,
Punches hard enough to,
Shatter a vase,
Why is everyone being,
So cruel,
They treat me like a child,
A nonchalant fool.

Everyone seems to be acting,
So cold,
So cool,
So icy,
It kind of gets old,
Sadley,
My trust can not be sold.

Emily i think you are her hardest critic. Let her write what she wants to write and if you don't feel the same way then don't reply or at least find a nicer way to do so, your comment completely justified her post.

Tamerah you have to admit that she's being way to dramatic and besides we've know each other since we we're little and that's the way we treat each other! It's our thang! You can't change the custom!

I think your piece really demonstrates how poetry can be used to get across a sentiment or emotion that is hard to express in other formats. Poetry is wonderfully cathartic but it also leaves you vulnerable - it's hard to hide your true feelings in it.

Anyway, your first verse have some nice metric. Maybe take out a few commas? Although that could be part of your intention, to have to spliced so goes with the emotion in the piece.

As to the topic, keep your chin up - art is in the eye of the beholder. As long as you like it, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Thanks, Mandolyn. Very intriguing comment! I was pretty depressed when I wrote this, but it didn't last long. Emily was right; I was being a little dramatic.
