He sat there. All he did was sit, sitting in anticipation as the shoppers passed him by with their wheeled baskets.
He sat here with all the others in a nice neat row. They all just watched and they waited for something to happen, and it did. A shadow fell over them and a clammy hand reached for the one sitting next to him. He was disappointed but the clammy hand knocked him over anyway. The twang of metal sounded as he rolled on the floor. He was put on the shelf again now beaten up and all wrapped up in his misery.
So he sat there, just waiting for that one person who would buy him. Days passed and thousands of shoppers passed him up unknowingly.
He sat there on an average day. A little girl came running down the aisle as her mother followed in a slow pursuit trudging along the rolling basket. She jumped over to where he was sitting and pondered a moment-gazing at him. She picked him up and ran over to her mom.
"Mommy, Mommy, Mommy! Can I please get this? Huh pleeease?" she said waited for an answer.
"Oh alright dear," she replied the little girl eating up every word and she placed him the basket.
He sat there in the rolling basket happy as could be. Someone was going to buy him! They rolled up to the cashier as she scanned every item-he was up next. She looked at him and asked, "you sure you want THIS one? It's a little beat up."
"Yes ma'am," the girl replied filling him with joy. So the cashier scanned him and placed him in a bag.
He sat there, one step close to being in a perfect place. Of course one lunch time decision lead to another so...
He sat there, in the trash can feeling a bit beaten up and used. Was he going to sit here forever? Where was this place of wonder everyone talked about at the store, he thought to himself. Things began to pile up in the loneliest of trash cans. He even thought he felt like he was moving up, then it felt like he was on some sort of vibrating machine!
He sat there as his prison began to open up and tear. He rolled out as the brightness of the sunlight enclosed around him.
He sat there in the most perfect of heavens. In a place no one would call wonderful except a tin can.
He sat there-In the garbage dump.
