chapter 4
"Freddie, I don't unders-" Jennie was cut off by an inhuman screech coming from the woods, which were ten feet away. A pale woman in a white gown came out. Her hair was long and wavy, and looked like blond hair does in an old movie. Her eyes were wide and dark, they didn't seem to be any color at all.
She cocked her head slightly to the right, opened her mouth wider than is humanly possible, and screeched again.
Freddie turned to Jennie. "GO!" he pratically screamed at her, and pushed her towards the house. She took off towards the house, too scared to look back.
Freddie turned back to the woman, who was now directly behind him. His eyes were hard and intense, and when he spoke, his voice was deep and full of anger. "Stop."
That one word was enough to startle the woman into backing away. The emotion in her eyes quickly changed from fear to annoyance. "Freddie, why must you always do this?" Her voice was an eerie-sounding whisper.
"Mum, I want you to leave her alone."
She rolled her eyes and started walking around him. "Oh, Freddie, you say that about everyone who moves into this house."
He turned to face her. "I mean it!"
She smiled knowingly at him. "Why, Frederick James Parker! You love her, don't you?"
He automatically looked away, guilty.
She chuckled, then sighed and started walking again. "Even if I wanted to, I couldn't just let her live. I put a curse on the house! Everyone knows that if you live in a cursed house, you become cursed!"
Freddie opened his mouth to protest, but she turned to face him. "Don't even bother to try and convince me to let her out of it. You know full well I can't do that."
She started walking towards him. "You were there the day I cursed that house. You know as well as I do that she can't escape it unless she dies willingly."
"I can't ask her to do that."
"Then you'd better hope she has life insurance!" she said, laughing.
Freddie sighed, defeated, and looked up at the house. He had to find a way to save Jennie.
