One of my older sisters recently read a story concerning certain words of language, which to me seemed like normal, everyday words-which they were, but what I didn't understand up until that point was that those words are basically swear words. Then I decided to do an essay concerning this problem.
Goodness, golly and gosh are all derived from the name of God.
Gee is derived from the name of Jesus.
Heck, when changed around a little, basically means hell.
Darn pretty much means {a word I won't mention here}.
( I am not trying to use bad words in a bad way. Please tell me if you are offended.)
So you see, language matters. Even words that we use everyday could be swear words.
If you feel like saying any of the above words, please think twice. If you still think you need to exclaim something, how about "Fiddlesticks" or "Shucks"? "Oh, my word!" works too.
Try putting 'Fiddlesticks' backwards. The result is funny!
Or, as the Bible says, let your 'Yes' be 'yes' and your 'No' be 'no'.
