A Little Update

Submitted by Heather on Tue, 01/25/2011 - 07:00

I apologize for being so absent from this site since posting the last bit of Half Blood. Despite having no kids and only small commitments every now and then, time seems to runs away from me! So, then, I thought I'd let you all know what is going on in my life right now...

I have been married almost a year. A YEAR! Think of it! I can't believe that this last year has gone by so quickly. It has without a doubt been the best, most wonderful, most challenging year in my life. I have grown in my love for my husband so much!

Moving here to Michigan was a challenge. It's the furthest from "home" (Missouri) that I've ever been for such a long time period. Justin and I both want to move back to dear ol' MO at some point, but we're in no hurry--we like the UP! It provides lots of wonderful opportunities...I mean, we've enjoyed swimming in Lake Superior, biking, hiking, downhill skiing...and soon, we hope to add cross country skiing and snowmobiling to our list. Plus, it's a beautiful place that has inspired me so much, and really reminds me of God's wonderful creation! We'll miss this place when we leave.

We joined a great little church that is non-denominational, has lots of homeschoolers, and is just an amazing group of people. Justi and I recently got the honor of sharing our courtship story with the teen class. It was so much fun, and also it was a joy to be able to speak with them on that kind o subject. Everyone in the church knows my love of writing and reading, and they are very persistent on making sure that I'm not slacking on my writing! We've gained some good friends.

As for writing, I was published!!!! Last year in a little Christian ezine called 21Ten Magazine. My article was the Feature! I laughed, cried, and was so giddy for two days that it was rather hilarious! :) Currently, I'm working on a short story for a magazine and a serial novella that I hope will find a home in a Christian spec-fic magazine before too long. As for Half Blood, I am planning to start editing it very soon. If anyone is interested in being a beta reader (again!) and providing me with lots of critique, then just let me know. I hope to find Half Blood a home before the end of the year.

Also, for those who are on Facebook, I created a fan page...just search H. A. Titus, author, and I should come up.

This year looks to be as busy as last, and if I don't post much, I apologize. I promise to keep everyone updated!

I've never been swimming in Lake Superior, but I have swum in Lake Michigan. In May. It was frigid. And we've been on a ferry across Lake Superior, to and from a shipwreck museum (don't you love going on boats after you've been reading about shipwrecks all day?)

I'll read Half Blood! :) You just need to send it to me the way it is now... :)

I'll search your page on Facebook :) I'm glad that you're going well!

If only you had moved to the LP...

As far as editing Half Blood, I can beta for grammar and anything else that occurs to me. I don't expect I'll find much to say. I believe you already have my email address. It might be best if you only send a chapter at a time, though - or else I'll probably find myself procrastinating.

Congratulations on everything--marriage, publishing, writing, everything! And if you need another editor, I'd love to help...though probably, like Anna, it'd be best sent one chapter at a time...

Iccan't believe it's been almost a year since you got married either, Heather! Seems like just last weekend I was playing violin at your wedding and now you've been gone almost a year!

How time does fly...

As for Beta readers, you've been telling me for months that you were going to send me Halfblood to edit and you still haven't yet!!!!! I have even abstained from reading it here on AP like you told me to so I could approach it with a fresh view to edit! If you don't hurry up, young lady, I'm quite likely to forget what I said and read it right here on AP!

Brother: Your character should drive a motorcycle.
Me: He can't. He's in the wilderness.
Brother: Then make it a four-wheel-drive motorcycle!

I've read some of your other stuff and liked it so I'd be delighted to read Half Blood. I'm better at plot editing than grammer though.

Kyleigh: You swam in May? Wow. I don't enter the water here before July. :0) A ferry across Lake Superior would be cool!

Erin: Thanks!

Anna: The UP is much cooler. You should come visit. ;0) Yep, I already have your email, so when I start editing I'll start sending you the chapters.

Annabel: Thank you! I will do that if I can get your email...

Mary: I promise that it will be soon. Soon.

Sara Libeth: Awesome! Can you give me your email so I can send you Half Blood?

Michaela: Sounds good, thank you for offering!
