The sun set high on a cloudless sky
And a breeze o’er gently furling waves
Is starkly set against a group that is met
With tears and attempts to be brave.
Out on the sea that for others bring glee
Go the solemn and reminiscent band,
Of those who know one man whose now aglow
With the glory of the Father’s hand.
Passing the waves with faces grave
Until the small boat is stopped,
And a friend who was dear to the one spiritly near
Stands to speak as the boat gently rocked.
He was a great man, he was a dear man,
He was kind to all he knew,
He was a man of joy, he was a man who saw
Good in each soul he knew.
He was to all a friend, he was one of few men
Who could laugh at each trial in life,
He is loved by all, he is missed by all,
He lives now Above and full of light.
Silence soon fell on the people who could tell
They would always have him in their memory,
One by one they stepped up, with a hole in their heart,
And gave flowers and ashes to the sea.
I wrote this a couple years ago after my Grandfather passed away.

This was really sweet, and I love the rhythm. I'm glad it seems like you will meet him again!

This was beautiful, in its own type of way.
I really liked the last line "And gave flowers and ashes to the sea."
Because it gave the whole poem a sense of meaning and completed it really well.
I love how you described your Grandfather in the poem as well. I'm sorry for your loss, but it seems you'll get to reunite with him in heaven one day. :)
