Come, explore the world of the Great White Whale
That sailors used to know;
Join Starbuck in the dinghy that
Can but gasp in the sea's swirling foam.

Tired? - throw your troubles
On any passer-by!
Try your hand at a Southern boy's trick:
Present your toils as artsy style.

Laugh at the Catbird, cry with 'the boy,'
Feel chills at the black cat's call!
Know the dread of the red-eyed dragon,
Let a feathered thing carry you through all.

My heart is in time with the hoof beats
Of the steed whose feet send sparks.
I gasp at the leaps of Eliza
As across the river she darts.

Dread and anticipation are a strange mix
Watching the court through a child's eyes.
Death of a guiltless man - can it be?
As his helpless widow cries?

There is the green light of Gatsby
And a rose in a Puritan town.
A little girl screams in her cabin
When she hears the mad-dog sound.

Here is the voice of a nation,
The pride of one that is free!
Our tales, our toils, our triumphs,
Passed in gold to our posterity.

This seems like a very complicated poem to pull off. But this was really good! I'd love to see the booklist behind the poem inspiration :D

"Here's looking at you, Kid"

Write On!

The books (and two poems) are:
Moby Dick, Tom Sawyer, The Catbird Seat, The Old Man and the Sea, The Black Cat, The Red Badge of Courage, Hope is the Thing with Feathers, Paul Revere's Ride, Uncle Tom's Cabin, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, The Scarlet Letter, and Little House in the Big Woods (or one of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books; I'm not sure exactly which that scene is in).

Thanks for reading!
