'Work, chores, …any more?'

Dear God and Mary and every Saint,
Feel my forehead…am I going to faint?
Do the dishes, empty the sink,
What does one do when they can hardly think?
Annoying and gross, yes, that is true,
But I try and I do it all for You.
It may be dirty, it may be rough,
But I’ll do it anyway, to show You my love.

Vacuum the rug, scrub the floor,
Do I have to do any more…?
Yeah, hot and sweaty I may be,
Oh well. That’s how it goes, I see.
It is an act of charity and a sacrifice,
I will do it for you, not only once but more than twice.

Dust the shelves, make my bed,
Was there anything else my parents said?
I feel like giving up, my arms ache, head hurts,
But, Jesus, so did You, only much, much worse.
So I should not complain, now that I know,
It was Your suffering that helps me, here.
It was me and other sinners You showed.

Fold the towels, wipe the table,
Ugh! My legs are getting a bit unstable.
Must I do this, whether I feel like it or not?
Or should I keep going, and give it another shot?
I’ll take the latter, that’s how it will be,
Then after this, I will be free!

Oh no, I have school to do,
Math and English-
My…am I getting the flu?
My throat hurts, my neck is sore,
Thank You Lord, I don’t have to work anymore!
So now I’ll sit myself down, and take a deep breath,
…“Coming, mom!” Oooohhh, heck.

Should I stop this complaining?
I don’t seem to be getting anywhere…
Even if my arms ache, head hurts,
Throat is throbbing, and my neck is worse,
Doing all this whining will just help no more,
It will do nothing but make my mouth all sore.

So, this is my final answer to all my questions:
Do the dishes, empty the sink,
Even if I can’t quite think.
- Vacuum the rug, scrub the floor,
Yep, there is plenty o’ more!
- Dust the shelves, make my bed,
There was something else my parents said…
- Right: fold the towels, wipe the table,
Even if I do feel a bit unstable.
- Oh yeah, I have school to do,
Math and English-
Ah, I seem to be feeling better…
Thank You!
