Articulate

Rolling hills are lac'd with twinkling lights
This sleepy night in California
Curving roads that tease with many sights
Of places which I can't show to ya

Only rumors of a pretty beach
Sprinkled palm trees under glaring sun
People smiling at my southern speech
As I articulate more than one

Got my Texas tee and denim skirt
Topped with forrest green knitted sweater
Nothing but a country bumpkin squirt
Enjoying California weather

A southerner in California
Can make for a really funny sight
When a stranger smiles and waves at ya
It might put ya in an awkward plight

Just a fun/silly poem I wrote on the road yesterday. Had an awesome road trip to Cali. First time to be in that state ('cause obviously being in the San Fran airport doesn't count)!

Only rumors of a pretty beach--I was in SoCalifornia in April/May for two weeks. I definitely felt this rumors of so many beaches you can't go to every one!--thanks for bringing the memories back.

Aww, thank you for commenting!

It's been too many years since I've been to the beach...I wish I could have made time to go while I was in Cali. Maybe next time. :) it's been too many years since I've gilt salty sand between my toes. :)

I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.

This is so beautiful Damaris! Love this stanza:

Only rumors of a pretty beach
Sprinkled palm trees under glaring sun
People smiling at my southern speech
As I articulate more than one

I like that you highlighted the differences in where you come from and what people might think if you went somewhere else. This poem has a fun, dreamlike quality, and I am not sure how, but it has a hidden humor in it. It might be just me, but I feel almost like as the reader, I am laughing on an inside joke or something with the writer (you of course!). It is hard to explain but this is a good thing, and not something I find hardly ever in poetry. Great job my dear!
