I'd like some advice.

So, here's the situation.  I'm in _____ with my brother Sean.  I'm leaving for home in four days, and starting college for real in the fall.  (I did a year, but it was just generals and I'm entering as a freshman in a university.)  As it is right now, I'm majoring in Mechanical Engineering at a very good university.  I have very good grades and a decent head on my shoulders - I could do really well.  I even have a huge scholarship - really something that's too much to give up lightly.  The only problem is...

My hometown has really painful memories for me.  It's hard to get over it, and it's why I left for the summer in the first place.  Also, I want to travel, desperately.  I feel like if I go home and go to school, I'll be roped into a life I don't want.  Maybe if I just got a ticket to Europe, I could manage to hold myself together, get a job, and still do something new.  I love the feeling of being alone, if that makes any sense.

So, the age-old question: Do I do what I want, or what I should?  I'm really terrible at following advice, but I really want it from you guys, since you don't really have any biased opinions in this matter.

Thanks,
Bridget.

Also, I will accept alternate ideas, if there are any.

First suggestion that comes to my mind without really knowing the situation:

Study overseas. If there's any way you could spend a semister or even a break abroad, that might be a nice halfway option.  You could still take advantage of your education, but break away from your routine.

I agree with Kestrel. There are lots of ways that you could find out how to study abroad. Good luck!

Ah, I'm not near as old as you are (in a young-kid-still-in-middle-school kind of way) but I love giving advice. Kestrel's idea was pretty good, if you're interested in school. My thoughts? Don't do something with your life you're not going to regret later. But, mistakes can still be made. It's never too late to change things. Do what you want to. Don't live your life for other people. ;)

Well, that's all! ;) I hope you don't mind my two cents. (Seems I must contribute it to everything...)

Either way, good luck! You'll make the right decision for you.

(Really, Homeschool girl?  I thought you were so much older.)

Thanks to all of you.  Actually, going overseas for a year is a viable option for this university, although I don't know how it works for engineering majors.  But thanks; I can't believe I didn't think about that before.

I appreciate the help.
