Farewell, Dear Sea

You are a dear friend, close to my heart.

I grieve deeply at leaving your side.

But even though my love is strong, yours is fickle.

You move to and fro, you come and go.

You seem so peaceful, but underneath is a danger always lurking.

Violent, raging storms come upon a whim.

Oh Ocean, so wild, so alien, you draw me to you.

In my dreams, you are there, haunting, calling, singing your siren song,

Luring me back, into your waiting depths.

Such a capricious friend, how I cringe to leave you.

But I must go, I cannot stay. Salty tears run down my face and mingle with yours.

Fare thee well, dear Ocean! I cannot bear this agony of parting.

I try to be brave, to say I’ll be back, but who knows?

I leave your sandy shores knowing I am better off but you are like a drug,

I am linked to you, in my blood.

My hands tremble, I pick up a shell, a keepsake.

I will where it always.

Farewell dancing waves, farewell rocky shores.

I’ll be back, for the lure of the Sea is not to be ignored.
