The Gifted: Part One. Introduction

Once, long ago, in a time and place much different from the world we call home, there was a group of people with strange powers. They were the thing that myths and legends were made up of. Few believed that they really existed, and even fewer knew where they lived.

It was said that when an enemy rose up in any kingdom, these people would appear out of the desert, wielding magic, and defeating all who stood in their path.

Some called them avengers; some called them phantoms; some called them heroes, and others called them destroyers of the peace. Mothers would tell stories of them, either to haunt their children into obedience, or to calm the children in a storm.

Yet, wherever they went, they stopped all false tales from spreading, and planted another name by which they were most often called.

It was said by some that they were angels fallen from the sky. Others would have you believe that they were simply ordinary people. All of them are wrong.

                                    They are the Gifted.

Thanks! I am just waiting for approval for the next two chapters.

See him with his books:
Tree beside the brooks,
Drinking at the root
Till the branch bear fruit.
See him with his pen:
Written line, and then,
Better thought preferred,
Deep from in the Word.

The sentence "They were the thing that myths and legends were made up of" could be deleted, as the next sentence implies it. But I'm going to read the rest of it, just because this raises my interest
