After taking her time dressing, Mel and her parents went back to Gran's house.
Mel was and wasn't looking forward to this visit. What if...What if she was right? Mel thought this over again and again in the car. She did wonder what they looked like, what they were like. What if they exsisted after all? Oh, that would be amazing!
Mel shook herself mentally. Stop it, Mel. Gran just needs a....uhmmm....Wake up call! Yeah. That's it, a wake up call, she told herself.
Mel sighed heavily, arguing with herself in her head. She's nuts! No, she isn't! She's right! It kept repeating over and over.
"Melissa, get out of the car. You've been sitting there for nearly ten minutes," Mom said impatiently.
"Sorry, Mom," Mel said, chewing her lower lip and getting out of the rental car.
They all grouped together and Dad knocked on the door.
"Come on in, family!" Gran called from inside the house.
Mel saw Mom take a deep breath as Dad opened the door.
"Did you hear them, Melissa?" Gran asked, running up to Mel.
"Hear who? The water horses?" Mel asked.
"Yes, the water horses!" Gran answered.
"No, sorry," Mel said, seeing the disapointment on Gran's wrinkled face.
"No, nothing to be sorry about. Not your fault, they just didn't feel like calling you," Gran said.
"Mum, you can't actually be serious. I think you need some help," Mom told her.
"But, Deborah, please believe me. You would if you had Melissa's mark, but they won't call you. Please, I don't need help," Gran told her.
Mel just watched as her parents and Gran argued.
"STOP!" she yelled.
All three of the adults atared at her. Melissa Brooke Rodriguez had never done something so impulsive in her entire life.
Even Mel was shocked with herself.
"What is it dear?" Dad asked her.
"I want to try it," Mel said.
"Try what, Mel?" Dad asked, looking anxious.
"I want to stay with Gran all this week and see if there are water horses, see if they call me," Mel explained confidently. If her parents said no, she would find a way. She would make them do it, no matter what.
