Nighttime Doggie Walk (from last night)

Unfortunatly this is about the Nighty-Night potty break (for the dog I'm petsitting, Shelbi). But, I have to admit, it was kinda cool (not the dog peeing, the scenery....Wait...That came out wrong.....) So, I'm just going to shut up and start.

Shelbi and I came walking out onto the front porch. Wait, correction, I came walking and Shelbi came lunging at the leash. Don't strangle yourself, I thought, making sure to be quiet for the neighbors' sake. Shelbi ran excitedly to the driveway while I did my best not to strangle her, since she was pulling so hard.

After we were by the mailbox, I noticed the eerie silence around the cul-de-sac. The sky is cloudy, so there was no moon nor stars, but the neighbors' porch lights shined to reflect gleaming pebbles on the ground, like little diamonds. I smiled, thinking of how to describe them. All I heard was the crunching of Shelbi and my feet on the wet gravel. As we approched the Coppers' house, a dog started barking, breaking the stillness. Shelbi lifted her head alertly and whimpered. "Shhh," I said. I couldn't have her barking at 11:00 at night. Shelbi rustled through the grass and sniffed around forever, until finally I had to drag her to the Barwoods' tree.

The cool, slight breeze blew on my face. It was in the forties, so the breeze chilled my wet hair (I had just taken a shower) I didn't have much time to enjoy the almost-midnight peacefulness (the dog had stopped barking), for Shelbi surged forward to the next mailbox.

Finally, she "went" and I was able to go inside and sleep, but I just thought I'd share this with everyone, cause I haven't posted in a while. Hope you enjoyed! And I am having a painfully hard time writing in past tense!
