There's Perfect, there's Normal, and then there's Me

There's perfect, there's normal, and then there's me.
Listen closely and I'll tell you what I mean:
Perfect wears a dress sized two,
Her little foot wears a seven shoe.
Perfect nose and perfect smile,
Eyes made to win and beguile.
Perfect body and perfect face,
Perfect hair, always in place.
Now normal tells a rather sad tale,
In perfectness does surely fail.
Messy bun and camo flip-flops,
Red plaid pajama bottoms and a pink tank-top.
Neon-green nails, painted weeks ago,
Too much makeup, putting on a show.
And then there's Me, not perfect or normal,
Sometimes I dress casual, sometimes formal.
My outfits though similar, are never the same,
My hair, brown and curly, is never tame.
Acne that never will disappear,
The nose that is too big will never sneer.
Sea-green Bobs sized nine, and blue-jean skirt,
A navy-blue sweater and pink t-shirt.
I rarely ever wear makeup, only on special occasions,
I like to dress up like a Chinese or Asian.
Almond shaped eyes and a mouth that will twist,
God made me this way: I like it like this.
Pretty is as pretty does;
Don't dress a certain way "just because".
You are beautiful the way you are,
God made you perfect for who you are.
Follow what I say, you will not be amiss;
So smile, and laugh, and let me tell you this:
If the joy of the Lord makes you smile,
And cheerfully you go the extra mile;
If you thank God even for your loss,
Joyfully sing as you carry your cross;
You will be more beautiful than so many words can tell,
Godly character will clothe you, and well.

God made you look the way you look for a reason, so don't look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are ugly. You are beautiful in God's eyes because He made you look the way you do to glorify Him.

Very good poem! I love how everything rhymes nicely. I liked how you described perfect, normal, then yourself, and then I really have to highlight the whole thing -

God made me this way: I like it like this.
Pretty is as pretty does;
Don't dress a certain way "just because". - I loved this!
You are beautiful the way you are,
God made you perfect for who you are.
Follow what I say, you will not be amiss;
So smile, and laugh, and let me tell you this:
If the joy of the Lord makes you smile, - Yes!

Then this was my favorite part:
And cheerfully you go the extra mile; -
If you thank God even for your loss,
Joyfully sing as you carry your cross; - joyfully sing. :)
You will be more beautiful than so many words can tell,
Godly character will clothe you, and well. - so well-put

This poem had a very good message, and I think that is why I like it best.

Aww, thanks so much, Megan! I had to write it because for so long I struggled with thinking that I was ugly, and then I talked to a girl who struggles because she is beautiful (she isn't vain, she is very beautiful and she wished that she was ugly because she was having trouble with well, shall we say too many men being disrespectful), and also my little sister is pretty short and HATES it. So you see I had to write it. :)

I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.

I really hope that she won't struggle with it anymore, since God made all of us women beautiful, some more than others. I'm pretty sure you told her to continue acting with meekness and a quiet spirit, and if she does, it's not her fault on men's behavior. :)

This is really nice, Damari!

I love the way it all sounds. You write such charming poetry.

I am so glad to have come back to AP and read great poetry like this! You do such a phenomenal job of describing what the world sees as beautiful and then your uniqueness, which is the true beauty God made you to be! As every girl I know struggles with these feelings, I am so glad to find someone who is not afraid to be who you are. Don't ever let what others say about your appearance bring you down! God looks at the inside and that is truly what counts! Everyone is beautiful!

Great job with the rhyme and flow! Your descriptions are exquisite in their simplicity. Keep up the great writing!

Wow yet again! You are so sweet and encouraging. Thank you. It's all God. Here's a quote that I heard recently that I like to think was said to me: "God did something good through you today, but remember this; you're dirt. Don't ever forget that."
Thanks again for your sweet comments.
In Christ,
Damaris
