While You Were in School

Don't get me wrong. I love being home schooled. I will never ever ever ever go to high school. The idea doesn't even tempt me in the slightest. Hearing my schooled friends talking about the tons of homework and the predujice they get if they don't wear the clothes that are in style makes me feel so sad for them. Because high school is nothing like real life and here I am already living in the real world.

But sometimes when we are sitting around and they start talking about which teachers they like and what they did in photography class and what crazy thing someone did in the hall between first and second period I feel a little isolated. I can't relate to anything they are saying. I have nothing relevent to add to the conversation. I don't go to dances, I really do not care who is having a fight and who is going out with who.
And even though it is a bit hard to be left out of a big part of my friends lives and conversations when I really think about it I am happy that I don't share the same experiences. Because while they were sitting in class listening to a teacher drone on I was touring a potato chip factory. While they stood in yet another line I was rollerblading in the MetroParks. While they were doing meanless busy work I was doing a crossword puzzle in Latin. While they were waiting for the bus in the cold and dark I was milking a cow. While they were uncomfortably standing against the gym wall at the school dance I was watching brain surgery on the Discovery channel. And while they were slogging through hours of homework I was fighting my brothers with homemade foam swords in the driveway and watching the stars come out.
