Unless Postponed For Rain

In pale knobbled trees the blackbirds sit
And refuse to sing but a rasping call
Pessimistically they watch the clouds and say,
"How dull! How dull!
If the monotony doesn’t kill us first,
The world will likely end tomorrow-
Unless postponed for rain."

The wolves don’t bother to raid the sheep,
the bears hibernate early.
The deer gave up guarding their young,
And the plain little flowers forgot to bloom.
Why not fall into discord and sleep?
The world will likely end tomorrow-
Unless postponed for rain.

Bored out of my skull
The cupcakes won’t bake
My popsicle has melted.
I’ve read these books a thousand times
And my pencil’s dull as my mind.
The world will likely end tomorrow-
Unless postponed for rain.

The weathermen on the TV says, "Our high is 102,
but if perchance a blizzard hits, we’ll drop to very few."
But really, he hasn’t got a clue.
"There’s a typhoon in Greenland, a flood in Mongolia,
the economy’s terrible in the Arctic-"
And between "blah blah"s we hear him say,
"The world will likely end tomorrow-
Unless postponed for rain."

So I sit on this hill and watch the gloomy town
As melancholy clouds roll in from the dreary sea
And I put up my umbrella and sigh away a frown
And listen to my music till the battery runs down.
So leave your gloomy town and join me on the hill
Bring your colorless umbrellas, grey raincoats allowed
And watch the melancholy clouds
Blow in from the dreary sea
And bring plenty of batteries for your music player
So we can listen to depressing songs
Because the world will likely end tomorrow-
Unless postponed for rain.

Based off something Tamerah said, which can be seen on my comments. I hope she doesn't mind that I used it. :)
I like the last bit the best. The rest feels a bit stiffer to me.

What fun! :D
It reminds me of a guy who writes completely random poetry for children, what's his name...Shel Silverstein.

Hee hee. I am extremely amused (that sounds like a quote from something).

Oh, I thought that "guest" was just a catagory.

About funny poets, who likes Ogden Nash? I think he's so funny. He isn't really what you'd call clever, but just the random things he says are so funny. Like....

"The Lord in His wisdom made the fly,
and then forgot to tell us why."

He makes me laugh.

To be a monthly writer, you have to send Ben four samples of your writing, and he decides.
