[this piece has been redacted for publication in my school's literary journal!]
In one scene of this show Daredevil, Matt, the main character, fights for his life in the middle of a storm. He gets knocked into a puddle, but a flashback of his father, a boxer, gives him the strength to pull his bleeding face out of the concrete and finish the fight. I watched Daredevil just before my finals week, and you could say it's stuck with me. I bring this up because I've been feeling very lost and thin-skinned and stormed-on recently, and that image of a blind guy fighting in a deluge has been... oddly hopeful in my emotional fog. Thought I'd share.

I just came through a rut
I just came through a rut like that in my life. But if you really think about it once you get out of it you realize that it wasn't as dark as you thought when you were in it. God is always with you, and if you call on Him he may not get you out of the rut (if He put it there specifically for the forming of your character) but He will shed His light on your path and deepen your faith in Him.
Just some thoughts I had. :) The poem is lovely, and encouraging to me. I always get excited when you post.
I don’t thrive off of chaos: chaos thrives off of me.
OH, my gosh, Anna.
I needed this SOoOoOo badly, you have no idea. I came back on here just to read it. I keep contemplating posting the final stanza as a Facebook status. I didn't even want to read the explanation because I had my own meaning for it. "You can't win or lose at being a person." Right when I read that, I exhaled years' worth of burdens. To be able to do that with a poem - you are a magician. And it's just so intensely creative, too, in a way that makes me feel like celebrating - "if some of your heartlines go down" - like, WOW. We'll dig through cupboards! I love love love love this. And the tone of an older man (or someone else) speaking to someone junior to him -- that added a sense of overall comfort to me. "Just fight to know you a right / to be here, and one day you'll figure out where 'here' is." Thanks for this wisdom that came out of you in writing this. It is so beautiful, and was so necessary for me to read - came at the right time.
thank you guys, so much
Erin: It's a good show. EXTREMELY violent and frequently gory, which is... not my usual speed. But I admire the main characters a lot. A lot. A lot. And it really feels like it's written for someone who's in the place I am, you know? Which I guess is pretty self-evident as it was my source of inspiration, but. Anyhow. Thank you.
Damaris Ann: Yeah, absolutely. Thank you for that. :)
Sarah Bethany: I hope the 'explanation' didn't take away from your own interpretation too much! I wasn't really trying to fill in the details of the poem - I just wanted to share a bit of how those images were rattling around in my head and why. Everything essential I intended with the poem, you got, which is... immensely wonderful to me. I'd be honored if you used it as your fb status. Wow. Mostly I'm just glad I could help - life's a hard thing, right? And we help each other figure it out as we go.
I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right. --The Book Thief
Okay, making it my Facebook status right now. ^.^
....the last stanza, or maybe the last two, along with an old-fashioned picture of a wizened old man sitting on the grass with a horse.
I actually didn't read the explanation until just now, so I'm glad I 'got' it without that, and I'm sorry you're going through a hard time. I am, too. I think that's why I felt so connected with this. In fact, when I woke up this morning, I repeated the line to myself "you can't win or lose at being a human being".

This took my breath away. I
This took my breath away. I read it twice, just to fully understand every word. "You can't win or lose at being a person" struck home for me.
I just read it again! Ahhh! I love your words and it was meaningful for me at the time right now. I always look forward to your posts!

Loved This!
Anna, I loved this! It is such a cool poem with a different "voice" than what I am used to reading. It is like a breath of fresh air when reading poetry like this. It is so relatable! I love the "old man" voice/feel of the poem the best. Great writing! Keep it up!

This is lovely-very
This is lovely-very strengthening. I've been meaning to watch Daredevil. I caught some of an episode at a friend's house and really enjoyed it. Great job, I hope your life falls into place and things improve for you soon. :)
